Gents,
Old post but I'm trying to determine what color a grill would have been on a 1966 Mustang HiPo with build date of 23 Oct 1965 at the San Jose plant.
I understand, from the post above, there were three different colors used in the production year of 1965. I want it to be gun metal color and not black. At least that is my hope!
Admin Note: Post was split from an earlier one that focused on 65 grill color

Hey, something we can agree on!
Charles,
Would you happen to know my question?
-
If it is a 66 it should be black with chrome showing on the bars from the front. If you have the coral, it is blacked out behind that, If it is a GT then the grill is all blacked out. 65 and 66 have different grills (Honey comb vs egg crate)

+1 Semi-gloss black
Split the topic off of the 65 grill color one to reduce confusion and to focus energy to specific details :)

Thanks Jeff.

Hi guys,
Just wanting to confirm that the two top mounting brackets and the large central bracket were painted semi-gloss black as well or were they phosphate and oil like in '65?

Did you happen to look at some of the examples in the 66 Unrestored picture threads? Might have been a place to start. A couple of the examples have rusted grill top end tabs while others appear to still have their original finishes
Threads like the following have at least one picture each showing this area
- 66 San Jose T Code Thermactor Equipped Mustang (picture E1)
- Unrestored late 66 GT350 - Picture Thread (picture 1E)
Here are three pictures from Dearborn 66 unrestored examples
