Title: Oil Pan color?

My car is a 1965 K-code from San Jose with scheduled assembly date of 2/16/1965.  I'm ready to paint the oil pan, but don't know if the paint should be a flat, satin or gloss black.  And if there is a preferred "rattle can" brand/color for this, that info would be appreciated, too.  Many thanks, Ron.

Oil pan was on the engine when it was painted along with all its mounting hardware and drain plug.  If you look at the factory pictures of engines in a number of threads in the member section of the site you will get an idea of all the parts what were attached when the engine was painted and what they looked like when completely assembled - ready to ship




Color IMHO tends to be on the glossier side but not full gloss (builders often add a duller to gloss paint when spraying with a gun)  Heat will dull or take the edge off the gloss also with some run time

I've used Eastwood hi-temp semi-gloss (aka satin) black on 65 and earlier V8 engines. As Jeff said, the oil pan was painted at the same time as the engine so the gloss should match both. I prefer rattle can as it's easy to touch up. Alternator brackets were dipped so a different gloss should be seen. Same for the fan and pulleys, different gloss. And a different gloss for the fender aprons.
