AVM hinges will be easiest to find the maker's mark when installed. Look above the door check on the plate attached to the door. There are no marks found on the plate that attaches to the pillar on the AVM hinges. The letter "X" is also found on the face-end of the roller/door check pins.
SPC hinges, a little harder to find the maker's marks while installed on a car. If you find no marks at a glance, most likely it is an SPC. You should be able to confirm the hinge as a SPC if you like, on a hinge yet installed on a car by using a mirror. The mark can be found by viewing the back side of the half of the hinge attached to the A-Pillar, look on the narrowest flat area, closest to the hinge pin (see attached pictures). The cast plate attached to the door has the maker's mark hidden on the side of the plate that attches to the door. There is no way to find the mark on this half while the hinge is mounted to a door. The letter "M" is also found on the face-end of the roller/door check pins. ALSO note the SPC seems to be a stronger design with an embossed gusset from the pin over to the door check roller.
For the survey, any known vehicle production information can be helpful, preferably having "Actual Build Date" of known original hinges is best obviously. Please use the reply message area to supply date information.

I can only cast 1-vote for the LH lower cast hinge on my 11/2/66 ACTUAL build date example. The RH hinge was replaced in 1978 with door.
The other AVM example I have is from a SCHEDULED build date 12/13/66 San Jose example, I have both of those RH & LH.
Sure is a bummer they had to have two makers for these. I'll probably be hunting a RH SPC to match :(

I voted once, for my Actual build date 11/30/1966 SJ coupe: LH lower cast hinge AVM
Tried to enter a second vote for RH lower cast hinge AVM (same car), but the poll wouldn't accept a second vote.
Good survey - will be interested to see the results!

Actual build 12/15/66 SJ
Both lowers are SPC. The voting only allows for one selection - can't select one for RH and another for LH
uppers are also SPC cast assemblies.

I have a couple extra, will have to dig them out and see if I have something for you.

Mar 2 SJ FB -- Top Cast LH & RH SPC
Mar 2 SJ FB -- Bottom Cast LH & RH AVM
Mar 6 SJ Cpe -- Top Cast LH & RH SPC
Mar 6 SJ Cpe -- Bottom Cast LH & RH AVM
I didn't enter the survey since I didn't know if you wanted upper or lower hinge.
The Cpe is my parts car (hint).

I was wondering if there was a better way to do the survey...it seems there must be, especially since some of us have multiple examples to enter info from.
I see Jeff is back online, perhaps once he gets caught up (like he ever really gets caught up) he may have some suggestions.
The results are somewhat consistant so far in only one specific...that the same type was used on both sides...at least for upper or lower locations. Take for example John's 12/15/66 built example and my projected build date 12/13/66, John's has the SPC version on the lower like my 11/2/66 did while one presumably built 2 days earlier had the AVM on it(projected, so not sure about ACTUAL date) Those were off a SJ S-code coupe. Strange enough though, and this is where things go strange, why I began the survey...my 11/2 built example AND the projected 12/13 example BOTH had stamped steel AVM uppers (not cast). So my known absolutely as original LH side for my 11/2 was one each, stamped upper AVM and cast lower SPC. Then I had the December example with both stamped upper AVM's and both cast lower AVM's on it... while then also there was a donor door I have with no build data for other than the stamped dates dated 12/15 in the sheet metal of he door she'll that had both cast hinges like John's does. I haven't located those particular hinges just yet again from wherever I hid them when I disassembled the car, (missing my mounting plates too...probably in the same box somewhere). Once I locate them, I'll update the details for them.
Strange also that Bill has two examples (close in build date is a huge plus) with what I believed to be the EARLY version (cast hinges)...I wonder what the heck was going on here? Multiple lines using different suppliers?
Finally, I have one question for John... Do you know if your car was finished on time or how many days off it was? My 11/2 was late by one day.

Our car was built 11-04-66 the lower LH is a SPC. Can not open the RH door till it is out of storage.
-
Both lower hinges are AVM.
actual built date 01/12/67
Kind regards,
Jeroen

The Marti report says scheduled 12/20, serialized 12/9. actually built 12/15, released 12/15
