Title: Antenna fender location measurements.
Post by: 1967 eight barrel on June 29, 2018, 08:37:56 PM
Can anyone give me measurements from fixed points to drop the hole for the antenna mast?

You can size the template from the 1 1/8 hole as a guide.

I added the measurements to the template.

The 65/66 fender template is slightly different from the 67/68 location as the Ford supplied template in my post indicates (farthest out edge for 67) . Between the information in the two examples (thank you Jim) you should be able to figure it out.

Bob,
You are absolutely correct.

I copied Bob's attachments, cleaned them up, and add a "ballpark" reference measurement (5 5/8) from the fender/hood edge to the center of the antenna hole. That is a measurement taken from my 66 K Fastback. Bob's attachment is a Ford Service drawing to add an antenna for 65 thru 68 so that measurement should be very close. My drawing is a copy of an aftermarket document for 65-66 antennas. In comparing my attachment and Bob's, it looks like the hole is about 1/2 inch further away from the windshield toward the front of the car, but there is no common reference starting point for that particular dimension. Without a reference measurement on the Ford Service drawing, there is no guarantee as to location.
(Sorry about all the drafting talk, it's my nature.)

When I measure the Ford drawing (supplied with the Mustang antenna's) instead of 5 5/8 it is 4 7/8. Measuring from the center of the hole straight down it is 7 1/4. That is to the edge marked 67/68 on the template.

Thank you Bob and Jim. I was able to get the waypoints from the information provided and drop the appropriate holes. It came out great! I wasn't going to put the antenna back on the vehicle, but the radio wouldn't work with the remote unit.

What size of a hole will my body man need to drill in the 67 fender for the radio antenna? I don't have the antenna purchased yet.

1 1/8" according to the original Ford schematic.  A 5/16" hole should be drilled to the side before the big hole to allow clearance for the notch in the antenna locator base.
