Title: Drum to Power Disc Brake Conversion Question
Post by: Boss980 on September 29, 2018, 01:50:33 PM
I'm working on converting my front Drum to Power Disc Brakes. The kit includes a new brake pedal but I believe they gave me the wrong one as it hangs down longer then the clutch pedal does.

My Questions other then the brake pad what the difference in the drum brake pedal verses the power brake pedal??

Thanks Dan

I'm sure it's fine.
There's an adjustable rod coming out of the back of the power booster to set the pedal height.
There's a nut on the rod to butt against the eyelet piece that threads over the rod once the eyelet is set to the correct depth to give the pedal height you want.

The power brake pedal mounts higher up in the pedal support hanger than the drum brake pedal did. It mounts with a bolt, sleeve and nut hopefully provided in your kit, instead of by the clutch pedal pivot shaft like your drum brake pedal did. Your pedal support will have pre-drilled holes for mounting it.

"Your pedal support will have pre-drilled holes for mounting it."

I assume one of the holes used is where the bolt for the bracket that secures the Green clutch spring is using?

Title: Power Drum/Drum Brake conversion for 1970
Post by: chuckeley3 on June 17, 2019, 12:01:16 PM
I have a 1970 fastback mustang with a 302 V8 and 4-wheel manual drum brakes.  I want to convert it to 4-wheel power drum brakes.  This is my wife's car which she bought new in 1970.  However, her back issues make it very difficult for her to push the manual brakes.  I have been looking at a Master Power Brake Booster which says it will work for disk/drum or disk/disk brakes.  I called and asked if that unit would work for drum/drum, and they said it would.  Does anyone have any experience converting 4-wheel drum manual to 4-wheel drum power?

good luck with your project. this board is probably not the best place to ask as the strict focus is on factory originality. suggest you try vmf or another board that is more oriented towards your goals.
