Title: 6 cylinder distributor identification
Post by: Colorado56 on October 13, 2018, 02:39:02 AM
I have a nos remanufactured autolite distributor for a 6 cylinder engine and can't seem to find a application and was hoping someone might be able to identify the application.  The box is stamped C5DZ-F then crossed out with C40F and the distributor is stamped C6DF-12127-H. Was hoping to use this on my 66 mustang until my original is rebuilt.

You're right, C6DF-12127-H is not in the 72 MPC cross reference. C5DZ-(12127)-F is listed as a replacement for C5DF-12127-K, but is itself replaced by C4OZ-12127-F. The date code of 7H26, August 26, 1967 gives a clue of an early 68 application. The MPC I'm using lists Ford products, its absence might indicate a Mercury or light truck unit.
It's not the part number, but the components that make a difference, springs, weights, vacuum, etc. If you can have whoever is rebuilding yours put this one on a Sun Distributor machine (or equal) and read the curve, that might give you a better level of confidence.

Checked a spring 67 MPC and it was not listed in that version. Just a little too early for what may be a very small window of usage. Checked the listings for all the different 6 cylinders made at that time

Thanks for the info.  Looks like I have a nice paper weight.  :)
