Can someone advise whether or not there are actually plastic grommets inserted into the rear quarter panel where the short rear upper Mach 1 rocker molding mounts in with its two fastening pins. I have attached a picture where I noticed these, which I believe Jeff posted in a previous topic regarding a discussion on blackout paint.

I believe they are small washers that are made out of rubber or some other sealer that normally live on the mounting post of the molding. Looks like it stuck to the body when the molding was removed. I'll check some NOS moldings tonight to see if it's a rubber washer or sealer when I get home...

70cj did you ever get a chance to look at the NOS items you where going to check?

Hi, sorry about the delay in responding..... ( I forgot ….) I checked 4 or 5 NOS moldings, It appears that there was a small blob of sealer applied to the base of the post on the NOS parts. It looks like it was the black "dum dum" putty type sealer but its rock hard by now. On two of the moldings it looks like it melted before it dried out, making a small mess on the back of the molding. In the 80's, these moldings were just packaged in the blue and white paper envelopes and there's a brown stain where the sealer was on the envelopes also...
Hope this helps, John

Yes it does thanks for the response will use some dum dum putty to seal between the molding and the quarter panel.
