Title: 1968 San Jose Brake Booster Master Cylinder & Parts

I am looking to confirm if this brake booster, master cylinder and other parts are original or replacement units and if I should rebuild them or find other units. It looks like the booster was installed in the car unpainted and then painted after the fact at some point. It clearly has a FoMoCo emblem on it and what appears to be an original booster rod. FYI this is a Midland booster and I have heard that the original units did not have FoMoCo on them and only the replacement boosters did. So did all new cars get Bendix units and only replacements were Midland, or did San Jose cars get Midland boosters

68 Mustangs got Midland boosters. 69's got Bendix(except very early 69 production). that might be what you are thinking of. The one in the picture is a replacement. Some bodywork can fix that trademark impression once rebuilt. The master cylinder appears to be a Bendix replacement . Original's will have a stop bolt on the bottom not seen in the picture . Other details on the bottom and other side that are not visible in the picture .  The master cap with the small vent on the top is a 70's replacement also.

Look in the library first . I think our friend Marcus did a article on them.

Booster with master cylinder attached (cap on - bale attached) were painted as a unit before installation. The booster you show is what was typically installed that year at San Jose. If you check you might find a ID tag with date at the band clamp were the ends (bolt and tightening nut) are located at
