What part # does the original front and rear shocks have on a 70 Mustang? Did they have several types or....?
Looking for actual Ford part# and part# found on the shocks.
My parts catalog is the 1975 edition and does only list 1.
Have tried searching on several sites.
Thanks.

There are different ones depending on application . Engine size and if auto or manual come to mind. The fronts might be all the same without looking but the rears may be different.

Do you or anyone know where I could get the # 's?
Sorry, do not have access to any older MPC. Somewhat hard to find over here in Europe!
Thanks

John - Yes fronts and rears are different depending on different applications as mentioned. And because of this engineering (number on the part) numbers and paint marks differ also.
Then add to the differences between the two suppliers and in turn which plants they each supplied (typically MADE IN CANADA = Dearborn and NJ MADE IN USA = SJ cars)
Typically the MPC will not list all of the assembly line applications but rather Ford would combine applications so that they didn't have to make, store and inventory all the different ones - only a few. Often the Ready Reference catalogs for each year will include shocks since they were seen and quick moving service items such as ignition, battery and other items.
SO ffrom this point we would need to know more about your 70 to offer more help. Engine, body style, interior package, model, transmission... If you have the buildsheet you would at least have the color markings that would possibly allow reverse look up or cross reference

Sorry, no buildsheet.
Marti below.
In addition. The front springs has been modified. On top of each front spring there is a special spacer. Never seen it before on any Mustang. To neat to be homemade. Sorry, no pic availible.
Thanks

Thanks John for getting back with the details on the car.
Looking at other similar buildsheets and info it looks like If got the shocks identified from by the paint marks - Now just have to cross reference that over to part and or engineering numbers.
Guess your looking to get that info to locate originals or have reproductions etched

Looking for originals first! Also want to know if other models used the same shocks.
Thanks

Perhaps a Cougar. Cross over parts make a lot of sense financially, but shock sizing is a function of weight as well as stroke, and these vary a lot between car lines. Physical mounting characteristics are another consideration. That makes shock absorbers one of the items that don’t cross over well

John, The engineering number on the front shock is D0ZF-18045-B1 . The paint code is one off white Daub. The rear for Automatic is D0ZF-18080-A1 . The paint code is one violet daub. My reference is the 1970 Build sheet decoder and original shocks on unrestored cars. I will get Andrew to send a couple of reference pictures later today.

Front shocks were shared with applications such as Boss 302s, 428 CJ 4 speeds (Cougar and Mustang), 351C Mach I's that year.
Rear shocks were not shared by so many other applications such as 351 equipped Mach I's

Perfect. What format are the datecodes on shocks?
Thanks.
