Did the cross member perch, the portion that the transmission cross member mounts to stay the same part from 65 to 68 or did this part only change when the car body got larger in 71 ?

Thanks for your responces I tried to use the word perch instead of the cross member as I'm referring to the inverted U shaped steel stamping that is spot welded to the underside of the tunnel in which the transmission cross member is bolted to.

That's what suspected and the reason I didn't fire back with a response before looking at a bunch of pictures

Sorry for the misinterpretation, but someone might find that 6A023 discussion useful someday ;)
Let's switch to the 10692, which is the part number for the "member assembly - front floor cross no. 1"
According to the 60-68 MPC:
65-66 is C5ZZ-6510692-A (the 1965 single year MPC concurs)
67-68 is C5ZZ-6510692-B (the 1967 single year MPC concurs)
Per the 65-72 MPC:
65-70 is C5ZZ-6510692-C, so some typical consolidation has been done.
71-73 is D1ZZ-6510692-A
I would conclude that the initial design was changed for 1967, and then again at least once more in late 68 or 69 (a guess). The change to the revision C version however was such that it is backwards compatible.

As listed in Feb 68 edition
65-66 is C5ZZ-6510692-A
67 is C5ZZ-6510692-B
68 is C5ZZ-6510692-C
So at this point it at least suggests or documents that there were three different versions used on the assembly line and over the years Ford reduced and consolidated as they typically do but as we focus on assembly line practices the info above documents that originally there were differences.

Thanks for all of the responces clearly not a part that needs addressing often out side of rusting which I cant remember seeing in this part before we came across a car that had its transmission floor cross member modified for what seemed to be a shifter of some sort many decades ago.

Have seen some cut or hacked for clearance of unusual transmission and engine combinations over the years. Damage from wrecks that deep into the body normally mean the end of a useful body in most cases
