Pictured item was found loosely wrapped around the heater switch behind the dash in a spiral fashion.
Could use help making a positive ID whether this is stock or added.
Only purpose I can imagine is perhaps as an RF shield for the nearby radio.

I have seen this wrapped around the three cables coming from the heat controls. Guessing it keeps them secure instead of all over the place. If I remember correctly, my 64 1/2 has this intact.

Here you go... Whilst searching, sounds like it was also used in some applications to tie the heater hoses together???

+1 agree with above.

Super, makes sense.
A '64 "zip tie"

This "strap" is Ford part number FAA-18954-A and shown in the 65 and 66 Mustang Electrical Manuals (the 64 page is missing) for heater cable use. It is also used thru 1970 for various heater hoses applications. See the AMK 2014 catalog , p173, or AMK p/n B-13197 on their website. It's also referenced in this Forum's library in the Hardware Spreadsheets.

Yup I found one wrapped around the heater control cables behind the dash on my early 65 Fastback.

These "straps" aren't something "new" ; Ford has used them for years. Both my 57's and 59's have them on both the heater hoses and A/C lines. They are identical except for one small item - they are Brass. I have even seen them on some late 50's wiring harnesses. Ford'd predecessor to the "zip tie" ?

Now placed around heater control cables about 8" back from panel. Looks like it works to keep the heater cable from interfering with the wiper mechanism.

These metal straps were in most '65-'66 Cars around the Heater cables. It was usually just (1) Strap used. NPD and Virginia Classic Mustang carries repros of these straps.
