Title: Engine Block Immersion Heater questions
Post by: Mike_B_SVT on March 26, 2019, 02:27:24 PM
Ok Fellas, I'm looking for pictures and details on the Engine Block Immersion Heater.

My understanding is that this option was only available to Canadian DSO cars (or at least those are the only one's I've ever seen with the option from the factory).

If possible, I'd like to get some pics of the Block Heater and any associated wiring, for use in the upcoming Eliminator Book, to show the option and where / how it would have been installed.  As you can imagine, finding pics of this option actually installed on a Cougar Eliminator is nearly impossible.  There were few Eliminators that received this option, and even less survive intact today (maybe 3?).

So pics from any '70 Cougar or Mustang will be acceptable, as they should have been the same across all models (with the possible exception of big-block vs small-block).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and picture credits will of course be given.

Thank you in advance,

Mike B.

Ed, would it be possible to get some pictures of your block heater kit, if you still have one?

There are detailed  illustrations of the "immersion heaters" in the 67 engine assembly manual for big and small blocks but being a 67 manual the years after may not be the same IIRC this was the last year for this Osborn reprint.

Not certain that you could not get the option on a US delivered Mustangs. Have seen them on Ford trucks sold in the US.  Of course dealer installed was also a possibility since the kit was available through the dealerships

Looked through my pictures and came up with two similar styles. There was an external design also from early 60's that I haven't included in this post.

Hope this helps. PM or email me directly if you want a copy of my original sized capture rather than the dpi I posted here. Not going to be great either way since they were from ads posted on the internet over the years

Thanks Fellas, I appreciate the info and pics!  I'm still hoping for some shots of the heater installed on a car, but I'll take what I can get :-)

Jeff, I'll shoot you a PM with my email, for a copy of the pics.
