Title: '68 deluxe interior courtesy lights
Post by: don.piotrek on April 30, 2019, 07:02:31 AM
Where should I put the lights in my 1968 Dearborn coupe with deluxe interior and roof console?
The Marti Report states just deluxe interior and interior decor group. No convenience, safety, GT, or any other packages.
Without a doubt there are:
- map lights on the roof console
- door lights behind the door grilles
and...?
- any lights/ bulbs under the dash/ by the kick panels? one or both sides?
- a glovebox light?
- anything in the back, like the c-pillar light of the fastbacks?

No glove box light or under dash lights unless it had the courtesy light option. If it has the courtesy light option it would also have a trunk light, hood light and a locking glove box door. No lights in the back other than the dome light which you do not have with the over head console. If optioned with a floor console there would be a light in the back of the console.

Just thinking out loud here as I have no data. Just pondering ...

When the upper console is added via the deluxe interior and it replaces the dome light, how is the interior lit?
An interior light of some sort (dome on coupe, under-dash on convertible and fastback) is standard across the board.
The door lights don't provide enough illumination and, if installed, the rear light in a floor console wouldn't do it.

Wouldn't Ford put in the under dash lights as used in fastbacks as part of the upper console option for coupes? If you don't you have a very dark interior at night.

Thanks ruppstang for your very detailed reply.

Bossbill I see your point and I fully agree. That would be strange to have that dark interior. Mine is nugget gold, si there will be some light reflected anyway, but if it was black, it would be hard to use the glovebox or even fasten the seatbelts.

@BossBill
I have a coupe with deluxe interior. The interior lights in my 67 are underdash, brushed door panels and at the back of the console near the rear seat. So you actually have 2-underdash, 2-door lights and 1-at rear console.
