Title: 1970 Dearborn Special?
Post by: 69GT350H on July 14, 2019, 02:58:41 PM
We have a member over on VMF that states to have a 1970 Dearborn Special, much like the Twister. VIN starts with 0F05H to indicate that it is a Mach 1, but in the photo provided it does not have the side cladding. The owner has stated that he has ordered a Marti Report, but just wondering if anyone has heard of such a version?

These ones were built in Dearborn, but were shipped out elsewhere.
Maybe there was a version built in Dearborn that was their regional special too?

Seems weird that it has Mach 1 on the stripe and chrome Mustang script on the fender.
I bet it doesn't have a Mach 1 interior.
Shouldn't it be at least an M code to be one of the Specials?

Edit: I can see in the pic no sport lamps so it's just a sportsroof model

Actually, the Twister (https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/mustang-twister-special) has the chrome script. This one is missing the Mach 1 side cladding.

I see sport lamps and high back seats. Again, the owner claims VIN starts with "0F05H", "05" would be a Mach 1, "H" would be the 8 Cyl. 351 CID, 2 barrel carburetor, correct?

The Sidewinder Special was NOT a Mach 1 so should not have had the "05" in the VIN.

Seems they were also a region special.

"The Sidewinders were all Dearborn built in the 152,000 to 156,000 serial number range and were sent to the Omaha, Nebraska district sales office. The cars seem to have been sold at Ford dealers in Iowa and Nebraska." (https://www.performance-years.com/Product/Detail.aspx?id=3485)

Correct for 70.

Also as a reminder, mach1's had 2V carbs as well, Base engine.
