Jeff started a new thread on the hinge topic [below] so I moved my hinge data to a new post after his.
-
In the continuing effort to document the multitudes of production changes that took place during the 67 production year this thread is posted to collect data points and share findings related to the title subject. As always please include a VIN (you can leave out the final two number if you choose) and the real finish date at San Jose to help track and compare findings. Of course these are often changed on a high use, damaged, repaired or restored vehicle especially the drivers side.
The two versions identified has been the cast version and the stamped steel versions as shown below

11/2/66 SJ with stamped steel upper, cast lower.
I have 2 estimated mid-DECEMBER 66 SJ examples, one like my November example and the other one with both being cast iron (like Jerone's). All 3 examples showed no evidence of being replaced, all had assemblyline processes of primer/ sealer under original matching body color to the door of which they were removed from.

Signature car; all cast

My 67' in my signature line also had cast upper and lower hinges from the factory. 11/66 NJ

Stamped up, cast lower.

Stamped up, cast lower.
??? Can't help with the survey if we don't know any info about the car ;)

Dec 02 66 completion date.

All four were the cast version for my signature car.

My SJ Coupe listed below has all cast hinges.
Irrelevant to this thread, but my Dearborn built Fastback has stamped uppers.
-
Off topic I know but sadly, the MCA rulesheet has cast for 67 (as in ALL 67's) and steel for 68. Sorry, but I developed temporary blindness on that detail last weekend (fire me).

One of the positive side affects of focusing here on how the cars were built and not rules that change and often play catch up over time. We should realize that discussions and surveys like this have not been conducted in the hobby (that I'm aware of) in the past for many/most of these topics.
Hopefully we provide an unbiased discussions, enough original examples and data collection so that owners and builders can build they cars as they were and that the rules reflect that. Seen allot of changes and improvements over my 40 plus years
Thank you all that have contributed to this and other surveys - Now back to the focus ;)
As a note we can expect that a fair amount of these may have been changed out - Too bad they weren't dated (the hinge)
