Title: Protecting VIN dash tag
Post by: AJ on September 24, 2019, 02:00:06 AM
Just removed windshield from 70 GT500 and will be handing  car over to media blaster or body shop.  Question is what to do with the now-vulnerable VIN dash tag to prevent damaging it.   Wondering if it’s common to remove it for safe keeping while body is being blasted...or better to leave it in place and protect it somehow.  If the latter, reckon I could fabricate a sleeve to slip over it as protection.

Thanks
Adrian

when I had my '70 Mach 1 media stripped I wrapped the VIN tag on the dash with several layers of blue painters tape. It came off easily and protected the tag well from the flying particles. I warned the operator to avoid blasting the 'blue tape' on the dash as it was a federal offense to deface a VIN plate. He believed me and did a great job to boot.
