Title: Wax for dipping screw ends?

Does anyone know of a source for the amber color wax (I assume that's what it was) used on the ends of some screws.  Helps seal the holes... (for instance, dimmer switch, door sill plates and a few others).

I don't think it is a wax. More like a plastic.  It is too hard . It didn't seem to soften with heat.I don't know what the material is however.

We used to use Clear Plasti-Dip for protecting an item at work...  :o
It's tintable, and you can do quite a bit with different application methods.

Agree it's not a basic bees wax.  It remains somewhat flexible and squishes, a little like rope caulk.

I think it’s more like contact cement.

 Clear silicone would seem like a simple replacement but in reality it probably peels off too easy and is the wrong Color

I used this material for the "pinch clips" (see AMK 2014 pg 164, B-13153, 352191-S8, for "similar") used for gas line retainers on 64-66 Mustangs. It took several "dips" to get the thickness buildup that would work.

Agree its not wax. And as old as some of the NOS hardware and such is its likely firmer today than it was 50 or so years ago. Stuff you compare today is just a little more flexible than cool hot glue gun glue. What is important at this point (application rather than what it looks like on the tip of a screw) is that it is clear and seals without being too tunny once everything is in place IMHO

This product or similar is a distinct possibility
A sharpening service used to apply to freshly sharpened carbide saw blades and router bits when I put them in to have refurbished
