Title: 1968 San Jose GT 390 Fastback Front Brake system
Post by: bullitt68 on December 13, 2019, 10:58:55 PM
Just curious if the following parts are original for my car.  I want to be sure what I am working with before I restore them and prep the assemblies for installation.

1. Front Brake Callipers (Painted Semi Gloss Black or Natural Finish)
2. Front Calliper Pistons
3. Front Calliper Piston Seals (Will replace, just checking if they are original based on part number)

The calipers were bare cast iron from the factory.

Thats what I thought. I did read that some models did get black paint just like the rear brake drums. Mainly on 1969 Mach 1's with Magnum 500 wheels I believe. I always like to double check and not assume.

Thanks Bob

Correct parts but not original to your car IMO .
Is there a reason you say that. Just trying to piece the puzzle together and getting close. This is they final piece to fill in

The metal stamped date code which ever way you look at it is after the build date of your car based on info you post about your car.

Your style of calipers are commonly , easily, and cheaply replaced during brake jobs. You go to the auto parts store and get a rebuilt set and turn in your set that you took off as a core.

Ok got it. So apart from the date code the callipers are correct
