Title: 68 rocker molding option?
Post by: ruppstang on December 22, 2019, 03:07:44 PM
I ran across this picture of a 68 coupe towing a trailer in the 68 Mustang option sales catalog. I noticed that it was with out rocker moldings which surprised me because rocker moldings are on the 68 Mustang list of standard equipment. I realize the rocker molding were optional in 67. Possibly this catalog was printed before the 68 list of standard equipment was finalized.

BTW I ran a cross a NOS trailer towing kit. I thought it would be fun to have but not on our cars.

Think you'll find that the cars used (like in the film strips, some early ads and so on) are the preproduction and late styling cars and can often have a number of not RPO details

Over the years have seen a few cars at shows with the dealer rear tow package. Most of the time it was on one of those you see where the owner loaded up the car to stand out. Sure many of us have also found the evidence  of the hitch - holes drilled and not always patched in the body, bumper and so on depending on the style

We have a older lady in our local club that bought a new 69 428 Mach 1 and had a trailer hitch for their camper installed. They pulled it from Nebraska to Alaska and back. She said you could hardly tell it was back there. LOL maybe you have the wrong engine!

My Shelby was owned by Col. Pearson, who raced Cobras back in the 70s and 80s.
He decided a 4 speed GT350 would be just the ticket to tow his Cobra and half a dozen other Cobra race cars to Road Atlanta.
A trailer hitch was installed on the Shelby and it became his tow truck for a number of years.
I carried on a correspondence with him in which he documented the Cobras he towed.

Just a different frame of mind back then.
