Title: 68 four speed shifter restoration
Post by: ruppstang on January 16, 2020, 09:14:40 PM
I am restoring the four speed shifter for our 68 S code project. I am looking for the black plastic sleeve that goes in side the reverse lock out release knob.
It is about .49 inside diameter and .57 outside diameter.

NPD maybe if not a new part may need to be made out of nylon. I didn't need to replace that part on my shifter.

That's interesting.
I have a few of these levers and some have the black plastic and others don't.
Since the levers aren't marked, what years apply to with and without the plastic?
[I didn't look to see if there is thread that covers all shifters].

I can not say for sure about other than 68 but I think they all had them.

Bill Heeleys does not have them. He has been trying to have some made.

Last night I wen to the hardware store and found a tube that packaged a masonry bit that is just about perfect except it is yellow I'll will have to dye it black.
I will let you know how it turns out.

I completed the restoration on the shifter assembly and the drill bit packing case worked perfectly for the lock out glide. It slides up and down smoothly.
