Hi,
Anyone to help me out here?
Since I'm nonsmoker I just figured out today, cause I wanted to pull off the console ashtray for restoring/replacement.
There is an On / Off switch. For what reason? And was it original, or just smth a pre-owner did?
The one I have as spare for replacement does not has this.
Thx
Ralf

Not original. Might have been a poor mans anti-theft ignition kill switch

+1 to anti theft switch.

Or perhaps the "James Bond" smoke screen option. ;D

Btw, I did not try what will happen if switch is on position ON...and I guess I will not. I just dismantle the switch + cable
than to install my replacement part. I saw on the current one there is anyways a small (spring metal) piece missing.

Back in the day...before seatbelt use was mandated, it is said that certain owners might wire up an automated door release switch and activate it while turning left. The resulting "ejection" might be done for humorous reasons...or in case a date wasn't working out. Nonetheless, it is at very least a myth.
