Title: Quarter Window frame - "Tigering"- Polish out?
Post by: midnite cruiser on January 27, 2020, 05:05:47 PM
While my SS trim has responded nicely to compound/buffing, both Quarter window frames have visible marks on  the chrome upright inner and outer faces as pictured:

I would like opinions whether I am fighting a losing battle trying to polish (or otherwise abrade) to a visually clean chrome. This 'tigering' does not seem to click with a sharp fingernail or tool- they almost look like cracks.

Time to surrender and stroke a check for fresh ones or ?

Those kind of marks in chrome are very difficult to get out. I would as a chrome shop if they think they could improve them.

I had the quarter frames from my '66 coupe done by Qual Krom. The work was outstanding and I believe a number of forum members use them.

Several years ago I brought my frames with me to the spring Autofair in Charlotte and got a quote from them at the event. I was able to leave them. The final cost was around $400 (return shipping included) and they were done in about 4 weeks.
