Title: 1967 6cyl: A/C Compressor Clutch
Post by: timber67 on March 05, 2020, 12:43:02 PM
I am in the process of restoring my factory installed AC.  Can someone help me with the part number for the A/C Compressor Clutch (67 6 cly )and possibly a picture?  I believe all 6 cyl used a 2 grove A/C Compressor Clutch even if they did not have power steering.

Also, I think this is a one year part for mustangs even though it was used on other cars and years.

Is C7AZ2884B the correct part number?  Also it appears the last letter is critical - B.  Can anyone shed some light on what the various last digits of the part number means?

Also, from a judging perspective, would a point deduction be applied for a modern York compressor.  I am assuming a service replacement style A/C Compressor Clutch would have a point deduction.

Thanks

depends on what type of show & class you entered in. be more specific in the intended venue & we can be more specific in the answers.

you would lose points in that class if not the factory correct items.

The last letter identifies a different version and in turn application for a part normally the first being -A though those can be replaced quickly in the development process or can be in use for many years

From the June 1968 MPC, see attached.

There was no C7AZ-2884-A being serviced as of this date.  Even the January 1967 MPC is identical.

Both the -B and -C versions say they for the "hang-on" air conditioning, not the integral select-air type.

Do you have hang-on or integral? Probably integral since you used the term "factory", and I think that for 67 the hang-on type was limited to dealer or aftermarket.

Assuming integral with a 6 cylinder, it looks like the correct one is C7ZZ-2884-B.  See the second picture.  The description says the metal tag would be listed as C7ZA-2891-C, 6.875" OD, and double sheave.

Interestingly, the 1967 "only" MPC shows two different clutch assemblies (see attached). Although it doesn't specify Selectaire or Hang-On for either, I figured that one must be for the Hang-On. However, in looking at the 1967 Electrical Assembly Manual, for 6 cylinder Models with Selectaire, it shows two different "Alternate" clutches (copies attached).
Now the question ; what determined which was used, and why ?

If I had to guess, the C4 part would be for hang-on, and the C7 part for integral, since 67 was the first year for integral AC

John : I initially thought the same. However, the listing of the two "Alternate" Clutches on the Assembly Drawing for the Integral A/C does pose a question.

Thanks for the thorough discussion.  This is a tough part to find and the information you provided will definitely help me with the hunt.
