Looking to confirm if my brake lines are correct/original. The rear line does look original, but is frayed. Has anyone repaired frayed lines like this with any success.
Also before I put the rear cable in Evaporust the bracket looked like it was yellow CAD Dichromate, but when I wiped it down the coating came off, so perhaps it was a different coating. Question is what coating if any should be on the bracket.
The front lines are in much better shape, but they do look newer and I am not sure how to decode the stamps.
If they all need to be replaced which supplier has the best replacement lines
Thanks

Looking to confirm if this Brake Calliper cover is correct/original. It appears to be galvanized with no stamps or markings. AMK appears to have the same ones listed on their website. Listed as a zinc & wax finish and not galvanized. Would that be a faux finish?
FYI I tried cleaning up different galvanized part in the vapour blaster and was surprised that it removed the galvanizing. Unfortunately I was expecting it to just clean the part. Note to self! What is the best way to clean up galvanized finishes without removing them.
Thanks

The rear brake line appears to be the original, the front hoses have been replaced. The original front hoses would have numbers and date codes stamped similar to the rear hose. The caliper plates should also have a FOMOCO stamp on them, if not most likely they have been replaced.

Thanks Danny. I had a hunch that the caliber plates were the same ones as the AMK units. Do you think the rear brake hoses can be restored or should I get a set of 3 new brake lines. All the lines are good, but ideally I would have correct appearing hoses. IS there a vendor that sells correct appearing lines

Have you tried the Date Coding article in the Library ;) Try page #33
Often the replacement caliper shields will be plated differently (zinc or cad) than originals but the plating will provide a good base for returning a galvanized "look" to the pieces
Don't know anyone that redoes (as a service) the single crimping brake line hose replacement. Sure if someone does they will post some help

David Davis was making correct brake hoses a few years ago, not sure if he still is or not.

i think there is/was a liability issue on the crimping of the hoses, single vs. double crimp.

Was thinking more of restoring originals than reproduction though he was doing the reproductions and I think still is. Think there was a waiver involved

Thanks Jeff I will check page #33. I will try to see if I can find a photo photo of an original Calliper cover so I know what it should look like.I will also see if I can get a good photo of the rear brake hose bracket to confirm what finish it should have as per my previous comment regarding yellow/gold dichromate vs silver zinc

Here is a picture of one from a 69 example that I've posted in other threads

Think you'll be correct with dichromate for the "mount" for the fronts and the rear hoses

Thanks Jeff on both topics. Looks like the replacement Calliper cover is pretty close. So I take it that the main difference would be the part number and or Ford logo on the originals. I would also assume that just like the rotors originals may be out there from other Ford models using the same parts.

Aren't the replacement caliper covers the ones with the Ford trademark and assemblyline ones do not?

Believe this is the stamp Bob is referring to - Note that the picture is of one on top of another in reverse position so it makes the whole shot somewhat confusing

Don't have any service replacement pictures clear enough to make out the stamping as in the picture of D00Z-2C077-A shown below. Might be something on the one to the right - can't be certain for this pair as documentation

Thanks Jeff. So which parts have the Ford logo, the assembly line units or the NOS parts. Not sure if it is the photo or not, but the covers with the Ford stamp do not appear to be galvanized

Lacking any opposing information at this time I'm going with Bob on this one

So no markings and refinish them as looking galvanized would be my suggestion, what I've done in the recent past successfully
We may find that the marking was for later (than yours) cars or just as service replacements. More info will follow - just can't predict when
