Title: 1967 Shelby rear leaf spring snubber pair
Post by: tim_morrison82 on March 18, 2020, 01:33:34 AM
Hi all. Can anyone tell me if these 67 Shelby rear spring snubber brackets are restored or Nos? They arrived in a bunch of NOS parts, so I'm unsure.

These parts will soon be offered for sale. I cannot find another pair listed anywhere, so difficult to put a price on it. Only info I found is hens teeth are more common.

It's not like I've seen a bunch of these. Bob can help there.

Here a few pics of mine with the all of its original casting sand marks.
Considering how stuck the bumper can get it almost looks like someone took a sawsall to get the bumper off of that one.

Not NOS . Restored would infer to make like new and the one in the pictures does not look like new or fresh. I agree with Bill that it was most likely a rusty one that had the snubber sawed off . Possibly the sides were sanded to get rid of rust pits. They typically do not have the saw marks on the top or grind marks like in picture on the side. The center hole looks drilled out oversize and oblong .

Mine look just like yours. Bill. Perhaps slightly smoother casting texture.

Another thing is that the hole is supposed to be threaded to receive a pinion snubber. Zoom in on first pic. Bob mentioned oblong, so the threads are gone by now.

Keith notes that his finish is not as grainy.
I do wonder who all of the subs were that cast pieces like this and the rear taillight lens bezels.

Looking at the ones I have, the threaded section has been repaired and welded back in. I was unsure if the cast item had a welded in thread section standard. The threads are there. I have not tried to bolt anything into it, or clean with a tap.

Here's some more shots. They look like the mounting holes are also ground down so I do believe they were installed on a car previously. Still original and functioning.
