A few days ago in another discussion (related to a set of unrestored pictures I posted) Ed mentioned the following after I posted the following picture

The 2 holes that were drilled at aosmith for the 2 round rear tag lights have reddish primer put over the new raw metal cut holes to protect the metal inside holes from corrosion and help seal the hole when the c4tz lights were pushed in place and the excess primer always runs down inside taillight panel as I have seen this many times on unmolested 69 shelbys. ..............
In that thread I mentioned I would start a new stand alone thread on the subject so pictures could be posted and to make it easier for others to find and apply the details as they choose.
I had not recalled seeing the detail but going back through pictures I had and had documented it. In fact I believe that is Ed in the background :)

Yep that's my shirt also notice the license plate bracket nuts shoulder washer nuts.

Would you guys say that the red primer paint looks like it may of been applied with a brush as apposed to haven been sprayed on because of the paint dripping on inside of trunk.

My vote would be for brush.

Would it be safe to assume that the same red oxide treatment was also applied to two holes for the Shelby exhaust system? Obviously they must of been drilled out at the same time.

If you are referring to the attachment for the exhaust collector through the rear frame rail then I don't think so. I haven't found any evidence over the years on many others .I would be interested to know if others did.

After I blew up the detail of this hole it appears the bottom is an existing hole that was enlarged at the top with a cutting torch? This is a production detail?
