Title: Oil pan and valve cover gaskets?
Post by: gimmea250swb on April 12, 2020, 08:54:27 PM
What’s the proper way to prep the seals on a 66 Shelby?  I’ve seen paint one side black and I’ve seen that they should be white?  What’s proper?

If it’s painted black on one side, which side does the black go on when installed?

Thanks!

Best way to describe the current understanding of how they were finished is to think of the gasket material being black on both top and bottom surfaces then each gasket was cut leaving the fresh edge without a direct coating of the black as mentioned in the thread below

Just searched "Shelby gasket"

Depending on how far your going you may want to research/search for details related to the valve cover locking tabs and the details of the original oil pan gaskets.
