I have a 1967 fastback that I am currently restoring. Am I correct in that this should get a washer bag? Also, is the bracket welded to the apron on NJ built mustangs?
-
Yes, yours should have the bag. IIRC, it was May 1967 when the change was made to the bottle. And yes, the bag bracket was spot welded to the front, inner fender apron.

Thanks for the reply!
Anybody have one they are willing to sell?
-
I sold mine but created this photo montage to help the buyer reinstall it.
If you zoom in on the last one you can see where the spot welds were located on an early March SJ car.
-
Awesome! That will come in handy once I get one to install.

Yes your car was built well before the change period (if the Dec 20 date is the real build date from a Marti report) and here is an example from the 7T1586xx - 7T168xxx period of production at NJ
We're not certain the change was in May 67 IMHO - we have found that May wasn't the change over at San Jose so it was likely fazed in at different plants during different times

Put an ad in the WANTED section - works for others :)

+1 .The Ford documents have a March date for example .That was probably when the transition began at different plants and phased in over time at others as Jeff said.

Do you guys think its possible to buy the early bolt on bracket and modify it to look like a '67? Not having much luck finding an original.
I know I would have to put the offset in it and close up the screw holes. I probably could use one of the holes to plug weld to the apron.

I am not sure when Cougars started production in 67 but think that they were built early enough to be a donor candidate. Theirs would be the same bracket. Try West Coast Cougars (forum member) .

I used to own one of the earliest Cougar XR-7's built in January 1967. Like all '67 Cougars it was built at Dearborn Rouge Plant. It had the bag with the welded on bracket. If you get one from WCCC have them cut out the fender apron with the bracket attached so you know exactly how it was done.

I will check to see if they have one.

Well I haven't had any luck finding the bracket. I'm at the point now with my project where I need to paint the engine bay. I think my only option at this point is to make the bracket. I have quite a few of the needed dimensions from the previous pictures. I need a couple more though. What is the width of the bracket? Also, can someone give me the details on the end tabs where the bag attaches?
Thanks guys!

You could try calling this guy. I've talked to him before. He has quite a bit of stuff by the way it sounds.

Just a thought but you might want to send something like the Craig list ad through the PM system since if posted here it will be up here forever though the link will be dead in days. Plus it adds little to the discussion about the bracket and or bag. Same goes when it comes to responses of "I've got that" or I'll sell you one for ...." :)
Just a thought to keep discussion threads focused ;)

Thanks for the responses. Ill try the craigslist ad.
