I need to purchase a lower steering column grommet for my 1969 Mustang convertible (April 8th, Dearborn). From the research I have done, it appears there were two different grommets used:
C9ZB-3K680-A (See image - and not sure if this is even correct)
C9ZB-3K680-B (See image - still not sure)
Here are some of the descriptions I have come across for these grommets that explain the differences between them. As you can see, there are several discrepancies:
- The grommet differences are related to tilt/non-tilt.
- The grommet differences are related to early/late assembly dates.
- The grommet differences are related to coupe/convertible or fastback models.
I have also seen these grommets referred to as short and tall.
Can someone tell me which grommet would be correct for my convertible? Are there any other grommet versions that I left out?
Thanks!

Since the fastback/sportroof's steering column is adjusted to sit at a lesser angle than the coupe and convertible the grommet/ring is designed differently
with that said I believe the correct one for your application would be the one with less material between the top edge and the cut out for the column.
Don't recall if each has a engineering number visibly cast into the part. If so the MPC for 69 or 70 could be checked for the numbers

Because the fastback used the extra two spacers, angling down the column. it used the lower one in the picture.

Here is some a post that discusses the related lower cover.

Thanks everyone for clearing this up. Thanks 67gta289 for the link (and nice job on the document).
