I am currently restoring a 1966 Hipo Fastback, August Detroit build. My question is did Hipo's after 12/65 have the exhaust manifold lock tabs. NPDs catalog offers only reproduction exhaust lock tabs b4 12/65. My car did not have the locking tabs when I purchased it 40 years ago but they could have been removed years ago before I owned the car. I could not find any information on this subject in the "Library". And Tony Gregory's book "The High Performance Mustang", doesn't discuss this subject. So, no exhaust tabs or does it use exhaust tabs that just aren't being reproduced? Thanks for the help.

i believe you should have the ramp loc bolts. at last check virginia classic mustang offered both styles.

So, my car would use the Ramp Loc Bolts without the earlier used lock tabs?
-
is that not what i stated above?

Which "August"? The "H" scheduled date code is August 1965, which would require "locking tabs". The "V" scheduled date code is August, 1966, would use Ramp Lock bolts.

While digging into the various Hi-Po exhaust manifolds in Mannel, I wrote this down too. Mannel reference in parenthesis.
63 - Nov 65: Hi-Po manifold used locking tabs with flat washer under locking tab. (3D3-h)
Dec 65: Hi-Po manifolds used Ramp Locks and flat washers. Yes, both washers. The aftermarket vendor supplied kits in most cases do not include the flat washer. (6D3-b)
67 "As the year progressed": Flat washer no longer used. At the end of 67 bolts were no longer fully threaded and shorter. (Sec 7D3)
=>add "flat"

The Hipo is an August 66 build "V" code.

The Hipo is an August 66 build "V" code.
With that late of a build for a '66, ramp-loc style exhaust manifold bolts would be expected.
