Title: Apron Rubber Plugs (376966-S), Direction of Inserting (11/66 S.J.)
Post by: 67gtasanjose on July 26, 2020, 11:09:58 AM
Each of the front inner fender aprons have one of these 376966-S rubber plugs. Apparently,  I did not document the directions these were inserted, I did document the ones in each of the rear inner fender aprons as coming in from the wheel side. The rear apron has two each, one behind the hood hinge and the other at the lower forward corner near the shock tower.

I assume (I detest the connotations of that word) all 6 used on the inner fenders would all be inserted the same direction but thought I would ask before spraying the sealant over any of them.

Rich,
Got a copy of the 67 Body Assembly Manual? The plugs are shown there coming into the engine compartment. As we "know", assembly line workers often got directions wrong.

My little brother car (December 66 SJ) was like this, referencing your pictures:
1. Inserted from outside
2. Inserted from outside
3. Inserted from outside - looks to be a duplicate of picture 1 - in the hood hinge area?
4. Inserted from outside

Do you have the oval grommets for the core support?

Yes, inserted from the front. Only one of those.

My "picture #1" posted earlier is before tear down, I have another picture taken at tear down (NOT shown) of the lower LH plug coming from outside (wheel) into the hole but I apparently took no shots of the front apron plugs at tear down. Perhaps they were missing? I can't be sure now but I also repainted the engine bay twice before so anything is possible.

Yes from outside to inside.

This was my best guess too. Thanks

Found the same on a pass through the pictures and thought I would post pictures to support the suggestions

Driver side  wheel well - passenger side ones also installed from out side in. Of course some of these would have originally been covered with sound deadener. Just does not stick as well to rubber over time

And the radiator support plug for this period of time at San Jose
