Post by: silverelvis69 on October 22, 2020, 03:27:18 AM
Hi Guys

Stupid Question and wondering what majority think I should do
I found my original fuel cap . Not mint condition BUT original.
Leave aftger market on or replace as it is original.

Do I also paint the stripes or leave as is?

If the latch is not worn, I would definitely restore an original. Repos are almost always different in some way or another.

I tried a repro gas cap and for several reasons didn't like it.  Went back to 69 my original. Had the outer surround re-chromed and re-painted the red/white/blue and black.  Happy with the results.  Brian

I think the fact that its original - Mint condition or not - it belongs on the car

Still looks ok and the fact it has the Ford part - just love it

Sure if it is not up to the same shape (level of finish or freshness ) of the rest of the car it can be concerning and can draw attention to the part. Depending on where your at with the car you may be able to improve it by polishing and cleaning it. If not finding a better one or restoring it or another one with the correct marks may be on your to do list.

Good thing is that is an easy piece to replace and or improve with out to much effort unlike other details and parts - but a very visible one

Good luck with your choice but make sure it is inline with your over all plan and vision
