You are seeking the correct Ford part number but the Carter number is a 4441-S.

Thanks Fred!
My understanding is that the Carter 4441-S is pretty tough to find these days. However, it appears that most vendors including NPD are selling Carter M6905 as the replacement pump. I was assuming, perhaps wrongly, that the M6905 pump was the closest (Carter) to original I would be reasonably able to find.
Either way, I'm still looking...
Thanks!

Not Fred but you can order a Carter look a like fuel pump from Summit or Jegs today. The Carter marked pump is vary generic looking . The modern equivalent and older versions flow at least the same . There are rebuild kits to rebuild older used versions. The distinct difference on a look a like will be the 4441-S metal stamped on the mounting flange and a distinct cast X on the upper body of a original . When considering a lower price and easier to find compromise there are quite a few different used versions out there that also have the X . You can see the X easily when looking at a installed fuel pump . You have to try very hard to find and see the mounting flange number on a installed fuel pump. The ones fuel pumps with a X but a different flange numbers are used by the unscrupulous to make counterfeits of the rarer more valuable 4441-S version. Fortunately there are some that are up front and readily identify their restamped pumps or will stamp the appropriate numbers on a supplied X marked casting for a nominal fee. Did I mention that assenblyline fuel pumps were also date coded too? ;)

The 4441S pumps used by Ford / Mercury on the 427 and 428CJ / SCJ have three check valves. The modern high volume M6905 Carter pump has four check valves so it is a higher flow pump. Some of the look - alike pumps that Bob is mentioning only have two check valves, they are not high flow pumps at all. You really need to be careful as there are many fakes, some of them will hurt performance too.
I wish I could go back to 1995 when I was at All Ford Columbus swap meet. Everyone had 4441S pumps on their table. Generally priced from $40 - $60. I finally found one with the right date code foe $50. Those were the days!
