Title: Intake vacuum fittings for a Cougar 1968 390 4V
Post by: Muneratto on January 11, 2021, 10:30:37 PM
Hello guys, this is what I have from the rear vacuum port of the intake manifold. Any thoughts about this assembly being correct for the car?

The shiny brass parts need to go in the trash. What options does the car have? A Marti report would be handy.

First welcome to the site. Hope you find the support and information you are looking for to help with your restoration projects.

As Royce mentioned, for a complete and as correct as possible response we really need your car's information. Its suggested that you add your cars details even to your signature (can be done in your profile settings) this way you don't have to list if manually everytime you ask a question. If not you'll be asked again and again. Its possible that the details with pictures of original set ups has already been posted in another thread but until we get the details we can't be certain

The thread Jeff references shows a typical 1968 manual transmission GT390 setup. All the parts that you need are available from Mansfield Mustang. I don’t think you have any proper parts currently.

Hello guys! Thanks for the help, I was wondering if Cougars would have different fittings due to the headlight vacuum actuators...anyhow I'll then follow the Mustang fittings.

Royce will have to provide what the source/location is for the headlight openers is. Don't have an assembly manual for Cougar and too many things in the way for this specific application in my pictures

This is a '68 GT-E with 427 side oiler. The 390GT uses exactly the same layout but the U-tube connecting the front vacuum port, rear vacuum port, and PCV valve is different because the 390-4V uses a different intake manifold. The layout is identical, just the U - tube is different.

The block on the rear is added on the line to suit vacuum needs of the particular vehicle. Here's the layout of that for your car:

The headlight vacuum leads to a check valve on the firewall that in 1968 has two ports.

Here's how that splits up:
