Title: 68 GT Reflective Group Marti Report
Post by: duffman on January 27, 2021, 09:27:53 PM
I have a 68 GT S code convertible that lists both the Reflective Group and the Blackout Hood Treatment.  It is Aqua with reflective C stripe.
I believe the  rims are original to the car, yet don't have reflective paint.  Does anyone have photographs for reference?  I did find a clear reflective spray paint.

Also,  the hood was repainted.  Were all blackouts in flat black?

Any help is appreciated.

A friend of mine has a 68 GT Fastback that had the reflective side stripes and wheels, which are black GT wheels.  Apparently the wheels were at one time reflective black, but had been repainted we assume, by the time he bought it.  What is your source for the reflective paint?

here is the Paint,
https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/specialty/reflective-finish-spray/ (https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/specialty/reflective-finish-spray/)
I have never seen  a GT rim with what it is supposed to look like, so haven't pulled the trigger.
Anyone have a photo with a flash to show?

Thanks!  Is this a clearcoat that you spray over the paint or is it tinted?

Just a clear coating. Have used it inside taillights in the past

Duffman,
Does your Marti report call out chrome style steel wheels? If not, it would have come from the factory with the argent painted styled steel wheel with reflective paint.  The chrome steel wheels were a separate option in 1968 and would appear on your Marti report.  3M used to make a reflective paint, it has long been discontinued.  Highway Departments and sign shops used the reflective paint.  You may be able to paint the  wheels with standard argent paint and while still wet sprinkle glass beads into the paint.  the glass beads will reflect the light.  I've never tried it, but a thought...or you can try the reflective clear coat you have already used.

I hope this helps.

Danny,

Thanks for clearing that up.  I do have the reflective clear rattle can so I am thinking of  using it on the  black trim ring on the GT hubcap, and jumped on Jeffs suggestion for inside taillight  housing.
This site is awesome.
