In the attached pic it appears to show that the fuel line bracket at the water pump was painted along with the engine. See how different it looks compared to the power steering pump bracket which is SG black. However, this early car is missing the bracket's spring clip to hold the line to the bracket.
An Ebay ad of an original bracket/clip is showing that the clip was attached to the bracket while the engine was painted. Yada yada about rebuilds and paint ...
Is the clip painted blue or does it remain "spring black?"

When did you start believing ebay ads over what you read here? You call it black but I call it spring steel blue.

Might have gotten knocked off when they were prepping the car and engine for the Sports Car Graphic ot the Popular Hot Rodding photo shoot. Believe that is #50. Seen allot of them being knocked off on unrestored cars

Not sure what ad that was or how you determined it was an original bracket and clip but as Bob wrote it was a dark spring steel color. If it had been painted then the workers would have had to remove it to install the fuel line and then reinstall it leading to the possibility of it being dropped and everything else that could have happened. as well as the unnecessary step and cost

I don't believe ebay ads. Hence,the yada yada ...
But I could not find mention of it in any post here. Most original car pics are in black and white so it's really difficult to determine the color or lack thereof. The Unrestored section of the forum tends toward GT500s. Hence the question.
With respect to assembly line procedures I suppose it's more efficient to always add rather than remove and reinstall.

I kinda thought that was directed to the casual readership. I'm a bit testy about something else. All good!
I searched some more and did find a really good repop at Virginia Mustang that had the comment about the bracket being painted on the engine and the clip being natural. Good parts and good comments!

When you get one and if it is natural bare steel then treat it with some gun bluing so that it looks assemblyline correct . Also natural bare finish will rust in short order. I have seen them come from vendors both ways.
