Title: 69 NJ Convertible GT 351W 2V 4 Speed Paint Markings
Post by: NoSize on February 22, 2021, 08:16:55 PM
I have a 69 GT Convertible that I'm restoring. It's the 351W-2V (yes, 2V) 4-Speed wide ratio trans.  Power front disc brakes.  3:00 standard rear axle.

Built on Oct 21, 1968 at the Metuchen, NJ facility.

I have searched the Library and other areas and didn't find any confirmation of the paint slash marks I'm looking for.

BROADCAST SHEET LONG GONE!!

Would anyone here have any information on the paint slash marks for above mentioned Mustang for the front coils, rear leafs and driveshaft?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't have the answer for you, but I am also restoring a 69 Gt convertible 351w 2v, 3.00 rear axle, power disk brakes, but mine is an automatic.
Built on Nov 15, 1968 at the Metuchen, NJ facility.

My car is rough but as I tear it apart I will get with you on any markings I find.  Also, will follow your thread for experts to add info for both of us.

I attached a photo of the buck tag off mine.

First welcome to the site hope you find the information and support helpful in your restoration efforts.

To start out would like to remind you that paint marks are looked at as kind of the last concern for a restoration AFTER you've done everything to make sure that every other detail is correct and original. Nothing stands out (read looks silly) more that a paint mark on a poor reproduction or wrong part. Paint marks won't make your restoration better nor make up for short comings.

With that said thanks for including allot of the needed info in your first post. I invite you to add this to your signature on your profile page

It would really help to know which rear springs (engineering number from the short leaf) are on your car since I don't believe we may get lucky enough to find buildsheet from a similar car. Likely will need to piece the information from samples of similar cars based on features. You car has an unusual combination of options as you likely know already.  but will give this a try

Can provide one of the marks you asked for at this point

Driveline - Light blue, Lavender, Red as the identification stripes

i might add that paint marks will not gain you any extra points at shows. but there can be deductions for incorrect ones.

Yes, I knew all this J_Speegle and Carlite65

Been an MCA member for 35 years and been involved in MCA and Judging 69-70's for past 20 years. Just wanted to know these paint markings for the correct finished parts mentioned in my OP. I've seen marks over the years, but as mentioned here, I'm not copying anything I've seen and thought I'd come here for correctness with all the information given from the build/plant of my car.

I'll find out myself with more in-depth research.

Have a good day.

As mentioned if you provide the rear spring numbers we can use sources other than buildsheets to help there. Like pictures and documentation of specific springs by their markings I've collected.

Shock markings would be a guess at the moment until another GT build sheet is found. Can't assume they are the same as Mach I for examples and they started mixing marks (front verses rears)  for some Mustangs making it a bit more difficult

??

I don't need shock markings.

In my OP I said front coils, rear leafs and drive shaft.

I figured, and was told, this was the "Go-to" forum to get this kind of information.

With the invention of the computer and search engines, I'll eventually find what I need.

Stay Covid Safe ;)

FWIW, my leafs are C9ZA-5556-C  date 0359

Sorry was just trying to help by providing some additional information and we did get , so far, the driveline. Guess "Any help is greatly appreciated." comment was a bit off the mark  ::)
