On a 1965 K code 2+2 GT standard interior, should the lock knob grommets be chrome or clear?

Clear. Get a set of 65 Mustang Assembly Manuals. Most of the answers are there.

Does the Assembly manual by it's self show it they were clear or something else? Or even colored to match the interior?

The 65 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (AM0006 pg 39, ref N5-8625) list only one grommet, C5DB-6221999, 1 required each side (For All Models C5ZB), no options. There is no reference in the Interior Assembly Manual. The same applies to 1964 and 1966 Mustangs. NPD shows a date of 6/5/64 as a changeover but that date is several months prior to the revision history listed. The 60-68 Ford Car Parts (aka MPC) shows the date of 6/5/64 as a changeover, but no colors are listed, just material, plastic.

The 65 Body Assembly manual page 39 (N5 8625) is dated 12/11/64. The C5DB-6221999 part is the clear grommet (C5DZ-6221999-B). The 65 Ford Car Parts and Accessories Catalog, which has a date of January 1965, shows the C2OZ-6221999-B grommet as before 6/5/64 and the C5DZ-6221999-A as after 6/5/64.

So, is the grommet chrome for a March 66 San Jose built car?
