Title: Heater assembly-to-cowl vent attaching hardware
Post by: mtinkham on April 29, 2021, 01:24:58 PM
I am looking for a picture, if available, of the fastener that attaches the heater assembly to the cowl vent on a 1967 non-ac application (see attached picture - bracket circled). It is for my signature car.

I have searched for "heater" and pictures are limited of this area.

I have looked at Jim's excellent hardware spread sheet and I believe the following are the correct fastener, but wanted to confirm with a picture, if possible.

42159-S8   8   FF149   14-10X1 1/4HEX,REC,FLNG 1/2,3/8HEX,TPG   SCREW,HEX,REC,FLNG,TPG   1   HEATER-DASH@DASH UNDER RH DASH

Thank you.

If we assume your factory used the same bolt as SJ, then this applies.
I think. It was in my interior stuff to plate and was not marked. But all the dimensions and type are correct.
There is no head mark.
I can't find the spring nut at the moment, but it's pretty standard stuff.

Don't have any NJ examples we can use for this question. Sorry

The spring nut should look similar to this.

I assume you are parts hunting in your stash but forgot what this all looks like?

Thank you BossBill...this heater assembly was removed almost 20 years ago...I've got a bag of hardware labeled bag-o-stuff - Interior. Quite embarrassing, actually.

Thank for the compliment. There are two sources listed in the spreadsheet, the source for the hardware item itself - in most cases a picture is included in that source - and the source for it's application (aka where its use is). As in any large spreadsheet (there are about 10,500 items listed in the master file, and I can't tell you how many columns wide it is), abbreviations are needed so there is an accompanying explanation. Remember, a "picture" is after the fact, many decades after in fact (pun intended). In most cases, it confirms what was done.

Shot a pic of what you find in your bag-o-stuff as we're curious.

Thank you.
You need the AMK guide to fasteners book. NPD sells it It will decipher the fastener code and show a picture. When looked up in the book the number has a page reference . When you go to the page reference there will be a picture .The picture will be of the type of fastener but not necessarily with the correct marking. Especially helpful if you have a pile of fasteners that you know came from the car and you want to figure out what is what.

Bingo!
Also: "Ford Standard and Utility Parts Catalog", available for 1965, 1966 and 1969 are excellent additional sources. Available from most Mustang parts sellers.
