Title: Question regarding 69 ball joints

I am debating whether to restore my original A arms or buy replacements. I was looking at NPD and noticed that they are showing original style lowers with orange rubber aroung the ball joint. Were originals not black?

Yes the rubber ball joint boots were black originally. Now what you may be seeing in the picture (sorry don't have a catalog close by) is a plastic shield that some suppliers place over the ball joint and boot to protect them from damage in storage or shipping. NOS ones can some times be found with an opaque cover  Just a possibility
