Change the oil in the 390, dipstick level right at the full circle. Took out for about a 10 mile drive and next day for the heck of it checked the level. About 1/4 inch above full and the dipstick smells with gas. Car ran normal the carb was not overflowing. That should leave the fuel pump leaking into the engine? Unless I'm missing another entry point.

It's possible one or both of the carburetor floats is sticking open and raw gas is dumping in the intake all the time. Some gets past the rings into the oil. More likely the fuel pump but seen it both ways.
