Title: 67 Red nylon sidewall tires?
Post by: preaction on September 26, 2021, 10:41:34 PM
I recently saw a Marti report for a 67 Mercury Cougar that had a scheduled build  date of june 20th 67 and an actual build date of August 8th 67, on the marti report the tire selection was 2 lines one for F 70-14 Wide Oval tires and the second line had Red nylon sidewall tires, has this type tire been seen before ? Were there Mustangs built using these tires ? The driveline was a 390GT 4sp.

Red side wall tires were used in 65-66 often referred to as redlines. Two stripes rather than the single red stripe that were later made

Skinny, not 70 series,  14" "performance tires" of the time

As for 67 production don't recall every seeing any listed or on a car but would be interesting to look through all the Marti reports we have to search for other examples

There is one 1968 GT-E / 427 car that was built with the same option shown on it's Marti Report. That particular car was a factory show unit featured in a Playboy Magazine photo shoot in fall of 1967. The car still exists.

Like Jeff said the tires have a single red line in the Playboy images. The redline tire option was cancelled shortly afterwards.

Coker Tire has several single redline tires listed, different sizes, different manufacturers, different tire types. Unfortunately, Coker does not have history on the year of introduction of the tires or who used it.
