Title: Tail pipe, 1970 500

I realize this sounds kind of dumb, but was the inside of the 1970 500 exhaust pipe painted black?

No.

 I think you are referring to the exhaust collector and it was bare aluminum

The exhaust collector (behind rear valance )is bare aluminum as has been mentioned . The exhaust port which is connected to the collector (protrudes from rear valance) is bare aluminum also but the inside the opening is blacked out with a semi gloss black paint.

Most of the time they run so rich the black soot covers all the internal passengers  ::)  IME
