Title: 67 SJ heater cable clip at heater
Post by: Bossbill on December 14, 2021, 04:31:55 PM
As I was plating yet another group of items I noticed 2 screws I didn't recognize. I suspected they came from the heater so I posted a few pics on the FB Concours forum.

I found another SJ Shelby owner who verified his heater cable clips had the head marking of "CF" and were finished in zinc. I rooted around in my cardboard plenum box and found my plenum with a dark "CF" fastener. The late 66 Shelby owner verified his plenum screw was also dark.
It looked like the plenum hex screw was a black chromate so I dunked it in muriatic acid and it did fizz, indicating a chemical coating. This stuff is tougher than either zinc or Cad so it takes a while to remove it.

Interestingly Jim's spreadsheet, the ASM and NPD all indicate the hex screw is 42067-S2 with a screwdriver slot.

So, it appears we have at least 2 SJ Shelbys that have 2 zinc and 1 black dichromate "CF" screw at the clamp position on the heater proper.

First pic is what NPD says goes here.
Second is what both of the Shelbys had.
Third is a pic of the late Shelby heater.

I have seen them both bright silver and also in what appears to be phosphate. I have not seen any that looked like black chromate from my perspective.

What you have are two screws, 42067-S and 42127-S, with identical threads, 10-12, the same length, 1/2 inch, and different heads.
42067-S2 is only called out (for 67,68) as being used at the heater to clamp the control cables. No other finishes were specified. I would assume that the clamps and screws were pre-assembled before installation.
42127-S2, -S36 and -S8 are called out several times for use in and around the heater and air conditioner units. That would make it a good replacement for 42067-S2 if necessary.
It would be an "oddity", not a standard.

Have  seen the heads with the slot on them used in 65-66

As for the CF marked ones those match with what I've got for 67 San Jose

Some examples for you to use as you choose

Jeff -- From I've seen on three 67-68 SJ cars (Kyle's, Mike's and mine) we appear to see the triangle maker's mark on the 4 shorter screws that attach the plenum to the case.
I can't make out the mark on the plenum screws you show.
