There are two smallish springs in the engine compartment of the 289 clutch linkage to reduce rattle and to help the pedal return. I'm not talking about the large one under the dash in the interior.
Also the 390 is a whole different affair, so not dealing with that either.
The ASM has a barely legible pic that shows the firewall bracket (7542) to Z-bar as spring 7523.
The 60-68 and 75 MPC says C3DZ-7523-A is 3 13/16 inch long- 30 1/2 coils
[Note that NPD misidentifies this spring as "lower".]
The lower spring is a C6ZZ-7591-A at 3 1/16 inch long, 40 coil.
I see no reference to color. Are both of these black?

I found an NOS lower service part that was still in the bag and it has a shiny black finish.
Ok, we all know that service parts don't always have the same finish (they have to sit on the shelf for a while) but this looks like the repros.
It's all I got.
The top one costs more in NOS and certain ebayers think their springs are worth a great deal.
I'll wait for a better deal, thank you.

I did find a better picture of the linkage and got a spring too!
Here is pic from the '67 Mustang Part Part and Body Illustrations', since the copy in the assembly manual sucks.
And a pic of the upper spring, which I P&Oed and then used T9.
[for the photogs: it's tough to take a picture of a part inside of a baggie. So many reflections.
Instead I placed the bag with part inside on white paper, turned off the lights (still daylight out and I have small windows nearby) and switched the camera to night mode.]
