Title: S-39 fastener finish
Post by: Wills70 on January 23, 2022, 04:46:50 PM
The Osborn manual refers to a S39 finish for the 5 tapping screws for the cowl panel, AMK catalog does not list this finish , any body help with this?
Thanks

The finish is reference in the "AMK Guide To Ford Fasteners 1955-73" as - "Cadmium Plate - electroplate - 0.0005 inch - withstand 96 hour salt spray test."
It is not a common finish used by Ford.

Some more detail from Ford documentation:
CADMIUM PLATE. This finish is an electro-deposit of cadmium.
Parts plated under this Specification will have a minimum coating
thickness of .0005 in. and must withstand a 96 hour salt spray
test on significant surfaces, except on threaded areas, etc. as
per ASTM B-117. Process Standard P-41-A. The minimum pitch
diameter of external threads before plating may be reduced below
the tabulated minimum by an amount equal to .003 in. minus the
allowance for the thread class. The minimum major diameter may
be reduced by .002 in. minus the allowance.

Thanks for the replies ,  Cadmium Plate - electroplate , If my memory serves me right i remember yellow zinc screws on the front of the cowl panel and that is what the AMK kit uses
