Title: Lower rear valance panel
Post by: kkupec02 on February 23, 2022, 11:14:00 AM
I know that I have a replacement panel shown in the picture attached given the stenciled part number. But, I think that even the replacement panel is the wrong one. Given my car is a 1/26 car, I think that I should have the exhaust trim rings and therefore more of an oval cut out. The panel that I have I think was used late February. I looked in the library and did a site search to no avail. If I start looking for a correct panel, what am I looking for? I see on NPD they only sell the panels like the one I have for 1967's. Did Shelby take a 1965-1966 rear valance panel and cut it to add the trim rings? On NPD, I don't see a GT and a non-GT 1967 version if that is the differentiation.

ps. I know that I have to cut the trim ring in half to custom fit it to the panel

Your car is right in the transition time frame for the rear valance. What is your Shelby # for context ?  Yes non GT is the difference. Hopefully someone else will come along with a source.

I will not speak to "correct vs. incorrect measurements" for your early 67 Shelby exhaust cutouts  but I believe the measurements for the 65/66 GT exhaust cutouts were shared if not in the Library, certainly within a thread. Jim  was who shared them before I believe.

Car is 1967 GT500 Built 1/26/67 #817. I searched 1967 rear valances and not 1965-1966 so I may have missed something. I'll search again. But if I don't use a 65-66 panel, it won't help me. I guess I need a source for a non GT 1967 valance and I don't see one on NPD. I see one on CJ Pony, https://www.cjponyparts.com/rear-valance-standard-1967-1968/p/V2RA/ so I at least know now what I am looking for. Are there specs anywhere to template where the half moon cut outs should be done? I want to find an original panel eventually and make those cuts. Thanks

I see original standard lower valances for sale on EBay. I also found this,  https://www.ebay.com/itm/363557820020?hash=item54a5bc1674:g:u6YAAOSwLE9hUk9X  . Do we have this data in our library or should I buy it, it's a reproduction, and scan it for our library if we don't have it?

I just bought it in case the club needs it rather than lose it. If club doesn't need it, I guess I have a wall decoration.

Car is 1967 GT500 Built 1/26/67 #817. ...........

For comparison I have unrestored examples built at San Jose 1/25, 1/27, 1/31 & 2/2 with the early version of the rear valance. Believe a couple of days after 2/2 they started to install the GT version based on the unrestored examples I've collected

2/2/67 example

The timeline for the change to the factory cutout is listed here:
https://www.saacforum.com/index.php?topic=13919.msg115379#msg115379

This valance was used on GT equipped 390 and HiPo 289s only. All HiPo 289s were GTs but only the GT option on the 390 got it.

Here is the standard valance at NPD:

Thanks. I just ordered an original standard valance off of EBay. I'll just have to figure on where to make the cuts based on the blueprint that I just bought.

Seems to match what I posted above though I think I've possibly gotten it down even tighter. Thing I've possibly gotten it down to a three day period currently

Sounds like a plan

That's a really tight metric, Jeff.

Jeff - Do you want a copy of the rear valance blueprint for the library?

Yes of course it would be nice to add to the 67 Shelby section.  PM for an email address if you don't still have that one file or saved

Thanks for the offer
