Title: 65 LH fresh air restoration question
Post by: CKF1962 on March 21, 2022, 10:25:32 PM
The vent barrel and operator is in pretty good shape, but the valve was rusted shut with years of crud sitting on top. I want to refinish parts but the rubber gasket on the valve door is rotten. Looks like it may have been vulcanized onto the door.

Anyone know of a source for the rubber gasket? The rest of the assembly can be refurbed.

The rubber seal is molded into the flapper.  There might be a repro, Ford actually did service the flapper, but it's somewhat rare to find.  Otherwise, sourcing one from another used piece may be the easiest solution.

Thank you - looks like the rubber was vulcanized onto the flapper. I will continue to look but I think I might could make one out of a piece of bike inner tube. At this point I just need function!

Agree finding one from a rust free donor might be the best solution. Not a high demand part, which has its good and bad sides
