Title: Tires for May 69 built Shelby
Post by: MrBill on April 04, 2022, 10:31:40 AM
Have a late May 1969 built 70 GT350, big suspension car, wondering which tires are correct for the car. Viewing the tires offered on Coker, I see one Goodyear Polyglass with the tire size in white on the sidewall, and one without. Which of these are correct for my car.

Also, as a potential concours driven car, would I be dinged if I went with the Firestone reproduction in a radial tire? It's been almost 35 years since I've driven a car with bias ply tires, with a projected 1,000-2,000 mile annual usage, wondering if I am overthinking the bias ply original vs alternate brand, radial alternative.

Your guidance and thoughts?

The correct tire is the Goodyear F60 no size tire. [edited to correct typo]

Here?s an article that may help

Shelbys never used Firestone

I thought they only did big suspension for the F60-15 tires. In that case the tires would be F60-15 Polyglas GT no size tires. I ordered mine from a guy online that has a better price. Google smallhurst and you'll find him.

The big suspension 69/70 Shelby's got the F 60 15 no size regardless of if GT500 or GT350 with the exception of the GT350 Hertz cars which got the E 70 15 blackwall like later 68. Speculation is that Ford wanted to use up the special tire along with keep the price down on the Hertz cars.

Order from Kelsey Tire

Nobody has the tires in stock at the moment, supposed to be produced in next 8=10 weeks, with availability in the early 3rd quarter. I have radials on the car now, and my name on a callback, waiting list for once they know a date of delivery.

I guess the current coopers stay on the car a while longer. Anyone know if I'll get dinged in a MCA occasional driver class for them ?

Black wall out, anyone know if they make a correct white letter kit, just for looks?
