Title: 69 San Jose Running Change Thread-Trunk Lid Stripe
Post by: J_Speegle on April 06, 2022, 06:17:26 PM
We had a small- short discussion a while back and I thought we should start some separate threads focusing on the running change. Ford in the early part of 69 production was provided with stripe kits for the new Mach I by #m. Ford some reason the words MACH I was not included on the trunk section or in some cases lacked the rear stripe all together as were the preproduction cars used in the early advertisements. This was later changed.

If we need to or can find enough data, discussions about the non-reflective stripes or the changes in the side stripes can be discussed in other threads

I mined an earlier thread on the subject that had a mix of plant examples and have included those examples below to help

- 11/19/68 had Mach 1 - Posted by 7Lscjracer

- 9R02H1315xx real build date of Jan 8 1969 without Mach I

With these other findings the 11/19/68 example may not have the original stripes applied and is suspect IMHO

The fairly late Jan date with no Mach I surprises me but there it is. Wish my Jan built Mach I had had its original paint and stripe on it to help

That's the picture I remember.  Now I have to figure out what to do.  Is there more examples out there from anyone?  Thank Jeff!

Added some examples. So far we have a Mach I built after your car without the Mach I in the rear stripe

That is good to know.  I have a little bit of time before I order the stripe kit.  If a few more pictures or data comes through that is what I'll go with.

Since this original post I met a guy named Rodney who had a car built 200 units after mine.  I went to see his original October 68 built 69CJ without the Mach I in the trunk deck.  His is 9R02R1073xx and mine is 9R02R1071xx.  Here is the picture of his.

Daven believe your mistaken the two cars were given VIN sequential numbers 200 units apart but there is no way to tell if they were built 200 apart and very unlikely given the production of these cars. Cars were not built in sequential order. Cars with lower numbers were often built after cars with higher numbers. What us important for this thread and other surveys is when the car was built . You've share with me that 9R02R1071xx was built Oct 1 1968 and  9R02R1073xx was built on Oct 14 1968 and with the pattern that is developing the lack of the lettering fits well

Thank you, Jeff, for the correction. The actual built date and not the scheduled build date was 14 days after my car.  Both cars were built 14 days after the scheduled dates.

I ran across the same car on FB.  It's actually 108xxx.  It's a scheduled October 8th 1968, 69 S code.  I'm glad there are more showing up without the Mach I in the stripe on the trunk deck.
